The Pomodoro Technique is a time management system that encourages people to work with the time they have, rather than against it. Using this method, you break your workday into 25-minute chunks separated by five-minute breaks. These intervals are referred to as pomodoros. After about four pomodoros, you take a longer break of about 15 to 20 minutes.

The idea behind the technique is that the timer instills a sense of urgency. Rather than feeling like you have endless time in the workday to get things done and then ultimately squandering those precious work hours on distractions, you know you only have 25 minutes to make as much progress on a task as possible.

Additionally, the forced breaks help to cure that frazzled, burnt-out feeling most of us experience toward the end of the day. It’s impossible to spend hours in front of your computer without even realizing it, as that ticking timer reminds you to get up and take a breather.

Implementation: I have been given a project in Amal academy to practice this technique. So I decided to work on my online course. I started my course, I set up a timer for 25 minutes and I started to work. Soon I got distracted by my thoughts. I started to make a fake scenario in my mind. I immediately pulled myself out from my thoughts, I noted it down on paper and then again I started to work. The timer rang after 25 minutes. I took a break of 3 minutes in which I check my WhatsApp and then again I set up the timer. This time I did not get distracted by anything and I completed one and a half sections of the course. I repeat these step for two more times . I got distracted for three times, one by doorbell , the other by my sibling and third time it was again my cell phone. So I put my cell phone on silent mode and completed 50% of the course.

Experience: IT was little difficult experience because I have to keep myself away from distractions. I got distracted by multiple times but through this technique I was able to pay more attention towards my task. I mostly spend more than 4 hours on my course but this time I completed 50% course in less than two hours.

To improve my experience I will try to increase the duration like from 25 minutes to 40 minutes. I will set timer for 40 minutes and I will try hard to ignore my distractions. I will definitely use this technique in future because it enhanced my productivity . It helped me to keep my focus on my online course and to fight with my distractions. I just realized that all we need is to pay a little more attention on our work to make it easy. Laziness and delay affect our productivity and efficiency of our work. Pomodoro technique is a great and systematic approach to reduce procrastinations and enhance productivity.

“Being able to focus on what you’re doing means fewer mistakes, and you produce higher quality work. The Pomodoro Technique is perfect for helping you to be able to do this”.
